Fixing Your Audi A6 Water Leak (Video)
Rain has dominated the Shenandoah Valley during the last few weeks. I can appreciate the value of precipitation, since rain = good water levels which = more kayaking excursions. However, the precipitation hasn’t been very kind to my 1999 Audi A6 Avant.
A few weeks ago, I noticed a water leak in the Audi. As I drove uphill, water came rushing through a vent near the passenger side floor. I figured this is one of those problems you can’t really ignore.
Instead of dropping $150+ to have a dealer fix the problem, I decided this was something I would try to fix on my own. The good news for me is that I fixed the problem in less than an hour. The good news for you is that I’m a nice guy and I took some raw video of the process.
I won’t make any guarantees, but this video should help Audi owners who are experiencing similar problems. When you’re done fixing your water leak, feel free to send me a check for the difference.
Hi Josh
Thanks so much for this video, sorted out my Audi leak, now just need lots of towels and fresh air to let it dry out.
All the best
Richard
Hey Richard,
Glad the video helped. All the best to you.

Hi Josh
Very informative video. Explained the problem my 2003 Audi A6 Avant experienced this past week. We had 4 inches of rain in NJ. My teenage son now drives this vehicle and was surprised when water came flowing out behind the firewall onto the floor of the vehicle.
Patricia
Patricia,
Glad the video helped. All the best to you and your son.

This post іs invaluable. Where can I find out more?
Thanks a ton. Well done.
All the best:
Thanks. I have been dealing with this problem for a while. Can one leave the plug out or does it need to be put back?
There’s no real plug there (at least not on my Audi). Just keep the drainage hole clear and you should be good to go.
It has been happening for a while for me but it’s on the driver side now my car won’t start any suggestions
Hey Lea,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the water may have affected a computer chip that sits in that area (I think I’ve heard stories of this happening). Check with a mechanic or someone who knows their stuff.
Best of luck to you.
Thank you very much Josh, You truly made my day. My 2002 Audi A6 quattro was leaking big time on the passenger’s side. At first I got panicked and I was now preparing myself for a huge amount for mechanic bills. Thank you to you I spent 0.00 except my energy off course in fixing the leak. I just hope that, there should be more nice people like you on our planet. ones again thank you.
Glad I could save you some money. Enjoy your Audi!
Excellent explanation and solution to this problem I had with my son’s car! Much appreciated!
Glad it helped.
Josh, great job man, you save me a load of money. Have you done a similar video for the sunroof rain gutters?
Glad I could help. I have not done a sunroof video, but if you end up doing one, let me know and we can post it here too.
I think there are actually 2 drains on my A6 Allroad 2003, one slap under the battery and the other one 30cms (1 foot) further to the drivers side (invisible but easily reached with your fingers. In my case both were completely blocked! Thanks a lot for the tip.
Glad the video helped. Thanks for sharing your discovery with others as well.
